There are no easy answers or quick fixes when it comes to addressing the cycle of poverty. But that’s no reason to ignore it. The complex economic, social and spiritual issues related to poverty demand a comprehensive and multi-pronged response.
Simply stated, poverty is on every continent, every country, every city and every neighborhood. A child dies every three pedal strokes from poverty. In America one in six people don't know where their next meal is coming from. Sea to Sea is cycling to end poverty. Some say poverty will never be overcome. But we can try. And we do it in obedience to God's call to defend the cause of the weak and fatherless and stand up for the rights of the oppressed (Psalm 82).
Sea to Sea serves as a way to further enable the Church to respond to that call. Individuals, groups and congregations are encouraged to get active in serving the poor in some new way, whether in your own community or half a world away.
Funds generated through the tour will be used to support new or ongoing initiatives by organizations like World Renew and Partners Worldwide in the areas of job creation, community development, sustainable farming, food security, access to clean water, immunizations, medical care and social justice.
And if poverty ends? To God be the glory.
