Sea to Sea to Host Youth Ride Across Michigan
(This letter was recently sent by Al DeKock, the tour manager, to local churches. If you have questions about the Youth Ride Across Michigan, email Al at email@example.com .)
I’d like to make you aware of an exciting opportunity for the young men and women of your youth group between the ages of 13-18 to be part of an amazing bike Ride Across Michigan from August 1 to August 7, 2013.
This ride across the state is an offshoot of the Sea to Sea Bike Tour—which is a nine-week, 3,900-mile cycling trek across North America designed to raise awareness and funds in support of those living in poverty around the world. The tour begins June 22 in Los Angeles and is hosted by the Reformed Church in America, Partners Worldwide, and World Renew—an agency of the Christian Reformed Church in North America. For more information about the tour, go to www.seatosea.org.
Through this event we hope to engage the body of Christ in useful service to Him on behalf of those suffering from extreme poverty by partnering with people and agencies in transforming lives and communities worldwide, as well as raising funds to provide help and increase awareness of the work being done to fight poverty by the Church.
For the youth of your church, this is a wonderful opportunity to bike across our beautiful state and raise money to help end the cycle of poverty in North America and around the world. The way it works is each youth group should identify an adult mentor for every student that will sign up for the ride from your church. The mentor will assist with training, cycling etiquette, and bike maintenance. He or she will also encourage the students to grapple with the underlying causes of global poverty and examine how the Lord is calling them to make a difference for Him in their own neighborhoods and around the world.
The members of your youth group will work together to raise $2,500 per person. Additionally, if a church youth group has a minimum of six riders, 35% of the money raised after expenses can be directed to your youth group’s approved charity. By participating in this ride, kids from your church will grow in their faith and have an experience they will remember for the rest of their life. One church youth group from West Michigan has already signed and we hope you will join them! To register, go to www.seatosea.org
More Ways for Your Church to Get Involved
In addition to encouraging your youth group to Ride Across Michigan, there are plenty of ways for your church to participate in this summer’s Sea to Sea Tour.
- Appoint a Church Contact Person through whom the organizers can provide updates and other important announcements. Let us know who this point person is by emailing Luanne Barnes at firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 1-888-272-Bike.
- Help bring awareness and enthusiasm to your church regarding Sea to Sea by posting promotional pieces in your church, putting the announcement in your bulletin, and adding a link to www.seatosea.org to your church website.
- Participate by supporting a local ministry fighting poverty and utilize Sea to Sea to increase awareness of the ministry.
We look forward to partnering with you and the youth of your church in this Ride Across Michigan. Please feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions or need additional information.
